Make Your Own Body Butter

Mango Body Butter

Makes approx. 8 ozs.

Ingredients:
2 ozs mango butter (weighed)
2 ozs cocoa butter (weighed)
2 ozs natural shea butter(weighed)
1 teaspoon wheat germ oil
3 teaspoons apricot kernel oil
1 teaspoon beeswax pearls
Essential Oil (I like orange or lemon with this recipe)
1/4 teaspoon Vit E. (optional, as a preservative)

Directions:

In a microwave safe measuring cup, add all the ingredients except the essential oil. Melt (in 1 minute intervals) on high until all the ingredients have liquefied. Continue to heat on low for another 2-3 minutes (do not boil). The continued heating will help prevent the butters from becoming grainy once solid. Remove from microwave and stir. Let set to cool for a few hours and stir again. Before the mixture sets (overnight), add your essential oil and stir or whip, to incorporate the scent. Spoon into jars or tins and label.

Note: This is a firmer body butter. If you prefer a softer butter, the
consistency can be adjusted bydecreasing the amount of
beeswax and/or cocoa butter. Or just adding a drizzle of liquid
glycerin.

Shea & Coco Body Butter

1oz Cocoa Butter

.5oz shea butter

.5oz natural beeswax

2oz golden jojoba oil

3/4 tsp tapiocastarch (optional)

Pitchof bronze mica

a few drops vitamin E

First melt beeswax then add other oils all in double boiler until warm (do not over heat) add vitamin E and essential oil (just a few drops) , put into a shallowcontainer and cool. After it is cool it is ready to use!

Whipped Shea Body Butter Recipe

80% Unrefined or refined Shea Butter
19% Oil of choice (almond, safflower, soy or grape seed are good choices)
1% Vit E
Essential oil of choice

Weigh your butter and oils into a stainless steel bowl. Place on double boiler and heat until shea butter is softened (be sure not to over heat as the shea butter will get grainy). You do not want it melted, only softened. I have found that using a whisk type blender is best. When your butter is soft, you may begin mixing with your blender of choice, starting on low to incorporate your butter and oils together. When that is completed you may now pick up speed and let it whip - as it whips and gets airy. it will turn a very light cream color. When your butter has the look of whipped egg whites and is starting to peak, add your essential oil of choice. I have found it is best to stop your mixer to do this, mix it by hand for a minute. then turn your mixer on high and whip it up real good.
