Aromatherapy and Essential Oil Diffusion

Diffusion is the process of dispersing essential oils so that their essence will fills a room or an area with the natural fragrance. There are methods from simple to elaborate. There are several ways to diffuse EO's many can be done with common household items. In addition, there are numerous diffusers and diffusing devices on the market today. You can also mix your EO blends in a carrier oil (jojoba, almond oil or any light vegetable oil) or in water and put in a mister.
Different ways to diffuse your oils
Essential Oil Diffusion Blend Recipes
Steam Diffusion
Boil 2 cups of water. Pour the water into a bowl and add up to 10
drops of oil to the water. Use fewer drops if you are using an oil
that may cause irritation to your mucous membranes (i.e.
cinnamon, eucalyptus, rosemary, pine, thyme, cajuput, etc.). Use
of energizing or relaxing oils can make this method useful any
time of day or night. The steam will heat the oils and cause them
to evaporate quickly into the room.
Candle Diffusion
Of course the obvious - buy EO candle (make sure it is truly EO
candle). If you have oils you have blended you could make a
candle (really easy with soy wax) or you could light a candle, let
it pool, blow out the flame and drop a few drops in the melted
wax (make sure not to put it on the wick itself)
Lamp Rings
mettle or clay rings that you put on a light bulb has been quite popular (does not work with the new energy bulbs). There is a grooved lip in a circle ring that you drop a few drops of oil in. You then place the ring on the top of the light bulb. The heat from a light bulb heats the essential oil in the Lamp Ring and the oil is then gently diffused into the room.
Clay Pot Diffusers
Clay pot diffusers go by many names, but they resemble small
terra-cotta pots. A clay pot diffuser contains an opening for
adding essential oils. Usually a cork is the method by which the
opening is closed. The oils permeate through the pot and then
diffuse out into the room. The intensity of the aroma depends on
how much essential oil is added to the clay pot.
Candle Diffusers
A candle diffuser is a diffuser that utilizes a tea light or other
candle to gently heat the essential oil to promote diffusion into a
room. A candle diffuser is usually ceramic or metal. The diffuser
has an opening or space for a candle and a little bowl or tray for
storing a tiny quantity of essential oil. When using a candle diffuser
light the candle and put in in it's place and then put a little water
in the bowl and drop a few drops of oil into the water.
There are several more expensive options but these are the most common ways to diffuse essential oils.
