Don't Crash Diet
There are as many different ways to lose weight, as there are people who want to lose it. And most of them will work in the short run. Some work because they take choice out of your hands. By telling you what and how much to eat, they limit the calories you eat. Most "lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks fad diets" are just low-calorie diets in disguise. If you are able to eat the things you love but in such small amounts that it does not fill you up "YOU WILL LOSE THE DIET GAME"!
So what happens to your body when you crash diet? Well, in the beginning the scale is moving down, so everything seems okay. Sure, you're tired, cranky and don't have enough energy set at your desk (forget about working out), but as long as the pounds are dropping, you can endure it. There's the hope that maybe this time you'll do it--lose the weight and keep it off.
The first five pounds or so that you lose on crash or fad diets is water, not fat. Most people who've tried crash diets regain the weight--and then some--as soon as they try to eat normally.
The best way to lose weight is to change to a healthy diet and lifestyle. I can not count the times I have said and heard others say I do not have the time or money to change my whole diet or lifestyle. Well....if you don't make a change and your are overweight ....you will stay overweight. Maybe you will lose weight for a week or a month on fad crash diets. But I have never seen anyone stay thin after the crash diet is over unless they make other fundamental changes in their diet and lifestyle!!! |
