Skin, Beauty & Hygiene Blends
Acne Blend
Ingredients:
1 ounce light cold-pressed vegetable carrier oil (such as apricot or sesame oil).
10 drops lavender essential oil
7 drops tea tree oil
2 drops bergamot essential oil
1 drops geranium essential oil
1 ounce light cold-pressed vegetable carrier oil (such as apricot or sesame oil).
12 drops lavender essential oil
7 drops tea tree
1 drops geranium essential oil
Special Precaution: *Avoid exposure to the sun for at least 12 hours after applying this oil since bergamot is a phototoxic oil. There is a special version of bergamot that you can get called "bergaptene free" that eliminates the phototoxic properties of the oil.
Directions: Pour the selected carrier oil into a very clean bottle (amber glass is best) and then add the essential oils and tightly close the bottle. Roll the bottle to gently mix the oils for a minute or two. Apply a small amount to the face, neck or back, but be certain to avoid the eyes, lips, nostrils and inside the ears. Gentle roll the bottle before each use to ensure the essential oils are properly mixed.
Easy Cuticle Oil Recipe
Ingredients:
1/2 fl. ounce cold pressed carrier/vegetable oil. 2 capsules of vitamin E, 5-8 drops of an essential oil that is gentle and helpful to the skin. Lavender, tea tree, patchouli or sandalwood are possibilities and chances are you have at least one of these oils on hand.
Instructions:
Add carrier oil to a new or thoroughly cleaned bottle. Get a Clean Brush that has a cap to brush on mixture.
Then add the essential oil. A dropper or pipette can help add the oils to the narrow opening of the small bottle.
roll bottle to mix.
Directions for Use:
Brush onto cuticles and the skin surrounding your nails.
Massage in.
Apply as often as desired, but discontinue use if you experience any problems. I apply it at least once daily in the wintertime.
Bacteria and moisture from your fingers and nails will be transfered onto the brush and into the bottle each time you apply the oil. Because this simple recipe does not contain preservatives, it is recommended that you discard any remaining cuticle oil after two weeks and replace with a fresh batch.
Aromatherapy Insect Repellent Recipe
I love spending time outdoors, especially in the warmer months, but synthetic insect repellents are known to cause irritation and sensitivity in some people, are toxic and can be harmful to the environment.
This more gentle insect repellent only requires a few reasonably priced essential oils and other ingredients, has a pleasant aroma, and can be quite effective in keeping most bugs away. Your particular usage and body chemistry can potentially affect the results. Also, this product may be gentler than most commercial products, but you still should do a skin patch test before fully using it. Always use safety precautions such as checking drug interactions and if you have a health condition or are pregnant or nursing check with your doctor.
Ingredients:
4 oz. clean/steral spray bottle with a fine mist setting (it is recommended that you use a sterol glass or new bottle).
3 ounces of distilled water and 1/2 ounces of high-proof alcohol (vodka is suitable, isopropyl or rubbing alcohol is not).
15 drops Citronella Essential Oil
10 drops Lavender Essential Oil
10 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
5 drops Lemongrass Essential Oil
Directions: Fill the spray bottle with the choice of either distilled water add alcohol. (Even though a 4 oz. bottle is suggested, Using 3.5 oz of liquid will leave 1/2 of a 4 oz bottle unfilled so you can shake the bottle well between uses.) Then, add 30-40 drops of essential oil. Essential oils can very in strength. You may want to try 20 drops at first especially if you live in a household with someone who is sensitive to strong aromas. If you plan to use it directly on skin no more than 10 drops should be used ( you can mix the 40 drops in small vile and drop in you 10 drops). Shake the bottle prior to each use, and let it sit for about a day before making a conclusion that it is too weak; the aroma can change after the mixture has had time to sit. Mist clothing lightly instead of putting directly onto skin (if in shorts or bathing suit use the 10 drops as suggested above). Be especially careful not to allow the mist to fall onto furniture or into open beverages.
To Use: Shake the bottle before each use. Essential oils do not fully dissolve in water and alcohol and will settle. If you do not shake the bottle, you risk having concentrated droplets of essential oil irritate your skin.
Reapply as necessary. Discontinue use if you feel sensitivity from the repellent. Be careful not to mist delicate fabrics or surrounding furniture that may be harmed by the ingredients in the repellent. Be especially careful not to allow the mist fall onto into open beverages.
Everyone and every situation is different. Although this recipe has worked well for me over many summers, there is no guarantee that this recipe will prevent you or other users from being bitten by insects and it hasn't been scientifically tested for effectiveness. You assume all responsibility for trying or modifying this recipe and seeing if it works for your particular needs. This recipe has not been tested for the prevention of ticks or their bites
